Any update on 1.09 release yet?

Submitted by Wink on Sun, 2006-10-29 21:19. Space Empires V General

Due to continuing bugs.. I am still unable to do somethings.. and ground combat is out completely.. decided to stop playing altogether untill some more of the bugs are gone.. more frustration than fun at this point.

Anyone heard an update on additional work being done?

Sooner would be better than later...

I'm not sure what the ETA on the next patch will be. So far 1.09 has been ok, but it hasn't fixed the launching bugs which need attention asap - I would guess in the next one-two weeks based on past experience.

I grabbed the latest version

Submitted by Wink on Mon, 2006-10-30 01:24.

I grabbed the latest version of your Balance Mob Kwok, and it is a nice piece of work. Thank you for the effort it must have taken.

However, With the CTD bug when you are in ground combat.. the CTD bug attempting to transfer fighters from a fighter group to a ship or recall them to a planet.. and the "Fleet eats all supplies" problems.. it is very very difficult to form decent tactics.. fighters scare me, because I launch them, recalling them may be impossible without a crash.. no point in building troops and invading.. and even if you do manage to crush a neutral empire, you can't get them to surrender because they are both deaf and mute it seems Smiling

If 1.09 doesnt fix those bugs.. then the game is still basically unplayable.. since two major elements cause game ending crashes.. fighters and carriers, along with ground combat are rather important pieces to a balanced, combined arms concept afterall Smiling

oh well.. here's to getting the bugs worked out rapidly, and having a truly great game to play for years to come. I have no doubt that when it;s fixed, I will be in heaven.. just may have to wait awhile.

I don’t really know of

Submitted by Razgriz on Mon, 2006-10-30 12:07.

I don’t really know of what bugs you speak of. The only game crashing bugs I've run into is when a mass ammount of fighters are attacking on a worm hole. Most pieces will freeze along with any shots fired. Combat will go beyond that 5 minute barrier. Ground combat works mostly fine more me and I now ~only~ conquer planets with troops (I haven't tried using fighters to do that too though.)

The only problems I've seen with ground combat is that some troops wont fire. Armor peircing amunition wont effect armor and the attacked troop will live with 100% armor and 0% hull. And then if there is a satalite in space then ground combat will be a stalemate.

I personally think that the only thing this game really needs is better ship designs, better treaty AI, and the AI to know when and where to hit huge (In my current game I have about 10 separate attacks by two different empires on my sector with 2+ starbases and 20+ ships. They attack with colony ships, destroyers with Lv1 Uranium Cannons, and the most annoying.... Mine layers. Which do lay mines in combat... But now my StarBases are equiped with mine sweepers.)

It would be nice though if they made autosave save on only three or so AutoSave data files and rotate between them (They might already do this, but it didn't in the 1.0 demo which was really annoying). I've come to save every turn I remember.

Anyway those are the essental things I see. Anything else is fantastic.

10 Save Limit

Submitted by Rilbur on Mon, 2006-10-30 12:09.

They actually limit the autosaves to 10 save files. Thats a little higher than you said they want, but thats a years worth of saves at my prefered 1 turn autosave setting.

You can give a man fire and he will be warm for a day but set him on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

You email Aaron about it?

I didn't send an e-mail to Aaron because I've read about the same problem in other threads. I guess that it has already been reported.

Do you think that is better to sent the savegame to Aaron expaining the problem anyway?
