Defence vs. Attack and other Combat related questions...

To conclude a multiplayer game my friend and I gathered both our fleet and decided to slug it out to determine a winner. Because we both were surprised as to how the battle went we are trying to find out WHY it happened.

So, because my fleet was defending (I had a base around my HW which we wanted to include in the battle) instead of attacking... Did that give me an advantage over my opponent ??

Can ships run away during combat ?? In a third try-out several of my opponents ships moved from the battlefield but were still intact (no damage, supplies and ordnance enough). Can this be because they were part of a 30-something large task force and those 8 were the only survivors ?? Can their morale have failed ??

DevnullMod 1.71.3 Released! AI is vastly improved

This version has been a long time coming, but I finally was able to do many of the things I've been wanting to in this mod. I skipped 1.73.2 and made it an internal release, so I'm now releasing 1.73.3. The changelists for both versions are below. As always, you can download the mod at http://www.devnullsoftware.com/se5.

Why Retrofit is limited to +50% per order?

This (another) artificial limitation is starting to really annoy me... and I see absolutely NO reason why it should be kept in SEV.
Maybe I didn't see something obvious?

Oh, and I also find the retrofit cost a bit cheap... (120% for added components and 30% of removed, no extra fuel/ordnance, and the need for repair bays - compared to a HUGE increase in construction speed)

conquest for the purpose of colonizing different atmospheres.

If I take over a race that requires a different atmosphere type from my own and then build a coloney ship and fill it with the new race why do they make a domed coloney on plamets with their atmosphere. Do I need to change a setting when I setup the game or is this an entended change from SEIV?

Missiles vs Satellites...

First of all i'm playing with the 1.33 european version. No patch available for this version and i'am really thinking of downloading an illegal us version of the game i have paid to be abble to play of the full game (with patchs and mods)

After this i have a question :

My 3 frigates have 2 missiles launcher each. I attack a planet with 3 satelittes ship.
None of my frigates fires at satelittes, they all always go close to the planet directly (and then beeing killed by the satellites)

I have a longer range. When i fight manually i can move my ship at the good range, then manually fire at the planet outranging the satellites. But even manualy if i set the satelittes as target, my ship don't fire.

Queue Settings in the construction queue.

I searched and couldn't find if this has been talked about yet...

When I use the "queue settings" in the construction queue to send ships to a waypoint it works for the first ship and then seems to loose the setting, so that then next ship doesn't forward once built. Am I doing something wrong? does anyone else have a problem with this.

Good Game But..................................

The game is good but the UI and Multiplay need work.

The UI is not user friendly and the multiplay is brutal. I need Hamachi just to play ip and even then i cant play in TB mode?
Dont get me wrong , i like the game , ive been playin the heck ouuta of it with the BM mod and think its really good. PBW is fine but my dream and i know i am not the only one, i would like to play ip with tactical combat. Lets face it , thats the best part of the game, well that and building your ships. The game must become more user friendly. The UI is just off, i am always trying to remember where to go to do what, The concepts just need to be refined a bit. The game is so close to being really great that it bothers more to no end when i become frustrated with the UI. The game just feels like work sometimes instead of a galactic epic. just my thoughts

How to play Online

This is how i play online with my friends.

1) Download Hamachi , its a program that sets up a network to play on and its free. all players need Hamachi to play.

2) Once Hamachi is installed set up a network on Hamachi. all players join Hamachi Network.

3) Launch Game Select Sim Game /Diff Comp/Host or Player/ip connect

4) Host player then clicks wait for players

5) Joining Players Must put the Hamachi Network# into the Host ip slot

6) Once joined , joining players make emp file.

7) After Host has recieved Joining players emp file he adds his emp file .

Cool Host selects Process to Start game.
