Guide for defining Combat Strategies

Hi,

is there a beginners guide to define combat strategies? My
results (up to now) are laughable. My fighters turn around
after being launched while the carrier heads into the fight.
I tried to define it the other way round.

What do i want to do:

- Attack Ships shell stay in formation
- Carriers shell launch their fighters and withdraw
- Fighter Class A shell engage enemy missiles, drones,
torpedoes and other fighters (defensiver fighter)
- Fighter Class B shell engage enemy ships (offensive
fighter)
- My fleet shell hit the enemy as a unit and not one after
the other

Planet defence

Wow!!

A couple of weapon platforms on a planet is an easy way to make a planet invincible!!!
I just got my entire fleet vaporized trying to invade a planet, with only 8 WPs!!!

Is there a tactic to destroy/disable them during combat?

So who needs starbases anyway??

And some more questions:
* Does ECM component is effective against missiles? or just direct fire weapons?
* Does combat sensors work for PD weapons also?

* Why can not i capture a planet despite i am victorious on ground? They dont give up and the next turn, they rebel against my forces (only my non-damaged troops show up in the next battle) with 100 militias!!! They just dont give up??? what to do?

Modding help required: Experience.

For a small modding practice I wanted to change the ship experience slightly, but I was having trouble getting what I wanted. I'm running out of ideas; can anyone help?

My idea was this: At first, ships gain experience a bit faster, then the experience gain slows down, and finally stops (this is the "normal" gain from staying alive etc. Combat exp. does not change). After it has stopped, ship can still gain experience through combat. Ideally, one could let the ship cruise around and get then to regular level, put them on ship training facility and get them to veterans, but would need to have them in combat to make them elites.

And how do you manage this kind of ship in a fleet? Are they core?

Excuse me if I'm confused, this might have been a dream. Is there a mechanism to view what enemy ships one of my ship has destroyed? I suddenly started thinking there was. It might be I'm getting confused with another game.
