Simultaneous=Real Time !!! (Not Turn based)

Simultaneous is "at the same time", "real time" NOT any form of turn based.
When I started doing research for the next gen Master of Orion game I wanted a real time multiplayer capability. This was my main requirement. There were two real contenders: SE and Galactic Civilizations. All reviewers agreed that GC had much superior AI but for those who wanted to play human opponents SE was the one! It was described as having both turn based and SIMULTANEOUS play options. So I went with SE... Now, after researching, testing and learning the game for over a month, I finally got to testing its multiplayer component on my LAN. And what do I discover? The local definition of simultaneous is still turn based!!!

How best to automate the defence of a non-colonised system

In my game I have a nice location that has in place several buffer systems which are perfect for defending any incursion into my empire.

I want to defend these systems, note system as I don't like the practice of parking on way points.

Getting some newly constructed ships to turn up should be easy with the go-to order.

But in the bigger scheme of things how does one go about this besides manually?

For example, I do not seem to be able to tell the AI that I want this system mined and/or have a few satellite's thrown in there, nor does there appear to be a way to say that I want this or that system defended.

Possible to edit game settings after start?

Hey guys sorry to bother, but I recently started a new game in which I am enjoying greatly. I've put alot of time into the game but unfortunately just realized that I set the ship limit faily low. Is there a way I can change it? I've been enjoying this game and I really don't want to lose it. Thanks in advance.

Newbie question: Countering fighters

Hi,

i just started with SE5 and my impression is, that fighters are vastly superior (in terms of combat related to ressources) than any ship type.

I started a game with all tech available and designed a heavy fighter armed with missiles. Then i tried to design a ship type that could fight off those fighters. Even allocating twice the ressources to the ship than i did for the fighters, i failed miserably. Neither frigates nor baseships (even when armed only with point defense weapons) could stand against fighters costing only half as much.

Probably i'm doing something wrong? How would something like a proper "flak cruiser" look like?

Combining Balance and Fyron's mods

After combining Balance Mod v1.14a and FQM 5.00 beta14 (with the latest SEV multimedia pack set) - get an Exception error: 'TDirect3DxFile.Start - Cant find xfile. Access violation at address 0047A083 in module "se5.exe" Read of address 00000000' this happens consistently after just several turns of playing.
Merging was done in accordance with BM mod's instructions: making a copy of BM directory, renaming it and copying .txt files from FQM's data folder.
