Change ship type in refit? Possible bugSubmitted by M--5 on Sun, 2008-03-09 23:45. Space Empires V FAQsWell, I built a ship for moving population around. I accidentally set it as a Cargo Transport...but BM Pop minister only controls pop transports. I noticed after buiding 2... So I copied the design, swapped type, and the game won't let me retrofit to new class. Is there any way to swap a ship's type? I think this may be a bug...it's denying the refit but not checking that the types are different. |

Type ('), then type the code text, and then type (') again to execute the code. I've also seen mention of using ~ instead of ' on the web. But these don't seem to work for me. I take it the main screen is the normal game play window? Any advice? TIA |

Bug ReportsIn a non-simultaneous hotseat game, if a player drops troops on the planet of a player later in the turn-order, the defender can jettison the troops. Less critically, but also important, the defender also has the opportunity to scrap all facilities and jettison the population. I guess we just shouldn't play non-simultaneous games, but our group likes the reactive simplicity of it. |

Space Empires V GeneralI was just answering around in another thread ( scrapping or jettison enemy units as cargo .. ) when I thought about jettison cargo from planets .. ( kinda like spaceballs without the maid-bot ) which lead to the jettison facility ( which shoots stuff out of the atmosphere ) and the planetary airlock .. which need to be opened and will vent the planetary atmosphere while jettison something .. then after all those random thoughts a inspirational particle finally crossed my brain and lit some synapses .. » read more | 19 comments |

Space Empires V GeneralAnyone else feel that freighters should be really fast, faster than the battleships, but have next to no combat manouverability. Reasoning being that generally a freighter's job is to get very quickly from A-B so it'd have huge rear drive engines but very limited steering engines as there's not usually much to avoid between A and B, except planets and you have fair warning if you're about to hit one of those. While in combat there is an advantage with being able to out-manouvre your opponent so more of the engines will be diverted to the sides. I'm assuming that it's not that hard to mod in and might change it for myself at least later. » read more | 15 comments |

Space Empires V GeneralAaron has released a version 1.67 beta patch, and he plans to release the official version next week!!! I'm at work right now so I can't install the patch right now to find out what exactly is new... but he says he's fixed a number of issues reported by players since the release of 1.66, including a lockup when processing end of turn! |
Help out a newb?Submitted by bellosthemighty on Mon, 2008-03-10 16:19. Space Empires V FAQsI just recently discovered SE5 when I DLed the GameTap version. I was having a lot of fun, but it was also very, very difficult, since I've never played a strategy game before. I keep learning things and then having to unlearn them because it turns out they're dead wrong- like how fighters mertalize everything in the combat simulator, but if you try and build an army out of them, they fall to pieces because they burn supplies so fast in enemy territory. After starting and resigning no less then five games after gimping myself each time, I decide "Okay, I obviously need some help with this." So I Google up this site, and learn I'm playing the game wrong in a fundamental way. » read more | 18 comments |

Seperatists shipset errorSubmitted by Deathstalker on Mon, 2008-03-10 21:25. SE:V MODsThe 'Seppie' shipset is missing a X-file for the Satellite (causes crash when launching a sat into space). Current workaround is opening up the X-files for the entire shipset and replacing the sat's listing with 'mine.x' for its value in line 2. This though will cause an error for the shipset asking for a 'mineuv256.bmp' file not being found. I just copy-pasted the human-sat file and renamed it 'mineuv256'. Everything seems to work fine now. Nice shipset btw Shushoni. Very much like the destroyer. Good work on the Galactic Republic shipet as well. Steve (any chance of a Younzan-Voung [sp?] shipet??, or with your obvious skill at wet-navy type ships maybe a Starblazers/EDF shipset. |
