Upgrading existing ships

Refit, upgrade? what do they call this? I want to upgrade existing ships in the game?

Can't attack enemy ships, my ships pass right over and ignore them

Playing a turn based, hotseat multiplayer game and I am finding that when ships of one of the player empires moves into a hex containing ships of the other empire (whom they are at war with), nothing happens. I see the ships at first, but after moving onto that hex, then highlighting another hex, then highlighting the hex the ships are on again, all the enemy ships disappear from the sector object display. This happens for both players.

Then it gets weirder. Sometimes it works fine, they attack normally, other times it does the same thing. In one instance I was unable to get them to attack, I closed SEV, reopened and loaded my save, and the attack worked fine. In another instance I had just completed one attack ok, went to make another and it suddenly stopped working.

Why do I get more research point every turn without doing anything?

I tried to test how central, system computer complex procent bonus to research worked with the cultural study Mathematics, but I didn't find out because I couldn't test it:

I went into a saved game and stoppede all research, ship orders and buildning queues but I still got more research point the next turn why?

I would also like to know the answer to what I tried to test.
Is the bonus applied like this
(((research point * central % bonus) * system % bonus) * Mathematics % bonus)
or somthing like this/somthing else?
research point * (central % bonus + system % bonus + Mathematics % bo

Will Unnamed AI Mod work with custom races?

I just recently installed the Unnamed Stock AI mod... I have one question though, will the AI improvements work with custom races I make in game? (just using the empire builder in game... choosing their racial traits, governments, tech, etc). Or will the AI improvements only work on randomly generated AI opponents? (I don't use the quick start game mode... I prefer to play against races with specific traits to my liking).

I suspect the mod does but I want to make sure before going off on a several week long venture against a dozen enemies hehe.

More useful planet icons...

I have a suggestion for Malfador regarding the interface which would greatly help in the gameplay and seems simple enough to be added via a patch.

Right now, when looking at planets, when one is colonizable you see either a small green or red circle with a triangle inside on the upper left of the planet right? The problem is it makes no distinction between rock, gas and ice planets. This can be a pain when there are lots of systems.

Why not enforce a simple variation in the icons to distinguish between the three? Example, a circle with a triangle for rock, a circle with another circle inside for ice, and maybe a circle with a wavy line inside for gas. Just to make things less confusing, don't you agree?

I made a game on PBW, called
"Role Playing Galaxy (long-term)"
anyone can join, just read and follow the rules. Turns are a full day, so keeping up shouldn't be too much of an issue.
