How to destroy an already existing facility?

Submitted by Astorax on Fri, 2008-01-04 03:50. Space Empires V General

As the title suggests, I'm having problems finding where to do this. Was simple in SE:IV but I haven't found the option yet in SE:V.

Ok, on my frontier I had just colonized a breathable planet and was congratulating myself on the lucky find when some random empire drops a couple freighters with troops on my unprotected planet and takes me over, lol. Ok, so I ended up coming back with some warships and I thought I was going to just glass it but they only ended up killing the pop off and it was still a hostile planet. So I had to build some troops and a troop transport, fly that through a sector with a blackhole to that sector and invade. Ok, fine, I took it over but they had built a small space yard facility and I want the normal sized one but I can't find where to scrap it. I see the button for scrapping ships but not facilites.

pbw.cc - does it work?

Submitted by Souljourner on Fri, 2008-01-04 09:24. Space Empires V General

found the site through links from here..... but it looks ancient. The last news item on there is from 2004. Does it actually work for SE 5 games? Is it reliable? Seems like half the links on the site don't actually work. All the ones a the top that link to community or forums don't do anything in Firefox or IE.

I really like the idea of a nice dedicated place to process end of turn files, but it needs to be reliable. I could probably hack together some kind of server running SE 5 via command line if I really needed to, but if PBW works, that's fine by me.

I can't see enemy planet in the Transfer Cargo window

Submitted by zomis on Fri, 2008-01-04 13:37. Space Empires V FAQs

I've loaded up my Freighter with troops, supplies, ordnance, and even some of my own population.
I've killed the enemy's space defense with my ships, so now I wanted to capture the planet.

But even though my Freighter and the enemy planet are exactly on the same square, I just haven't been able to drop my troops down on the planet to start capturing it.

Not even on empty planets, where the population already have been wiped out by some of my intelligence sabotage tasks, I can't land with any troops or population there either because of the same reason: The planet's not in the list.

DX 10 graphics cards

Submitted by w00tb33r on Fri, 2008-01-04 14:57. Technical Support

I just got a Radeon 3870 and it runs SE5, but objects flicker in and out making it difficult to play for a long time. I've adjusted everything in the graphics options that would help and there is no change. Is anyone having the same problems, and better yet does anyone have an idea on how to fix them?

Command Line?

Submitted by Souljourner on Fri, 2008-01-04 15:50. Space Empires V General

I heard mention of a command line interface for SEV? Are there docs for it anywhere? I tried running some command line calls to SEV, but I have the steam version and it kept saying "can't find steam.dll". Anyone know how to get around that?

If the command line is workable, I might try to write a program so I can have a dedicated server, ala PBW but much more automated (players would run a program on their local machine that would automatically transfer files to and from the server).

Adding / Subtracting Ministers

Submitted by unnamed on Fri, 2008-01-04 18:13. SE:V MODs

Hey Everyone,

Looking for a way to add or subtract the options for ministers that people have to choose from (Under Minster Option in the Empire Options Menu). I fel like this should be possible. But after a little searching I didnt see anything and I feel like I'm missing something obvious. Any ideas?

A question about weapon mounts

Submitted by HeberMagalhaes on Fri, 2008-01-04 18:45. Space Empires V General

Ive been trying to use a mount to reduce the size, supply usage, range and damage of every weapon, so they can fit in units. Everything works just fine, excepting the damage. I used the ability "Component - Weapon Damage Percent" and the value "-109" at it. I had previously used "-90" hoping it would result in on tenth of the original value but to no avail. I experimented several values untill "-109" apparently worked. It was one tenth of the damage. In game, however, it jumped to almost 1K damage. Has anyone else ever tried it?

A few tips for noobs (namely me)

Submitted by Astorax on Fri, 2008-01-04 19:41. Space Empires V FAQs

Hey guys, I've completed my first game running SE:V + Devnull mod and it was a learning experience for sure, lol. I thought I would post here with some of the things I found that helped me for the benefit of anyone else just starting out.

Firstly, get Sensors up to 3+ ASAP, it will only help you out. I tend to put Basic Sensors on my Colony Ships and have them survey the system and the higher the Sensor strength you have the easier/faster it is to survey the whole sector. My Colony Ships are really my scouts; I just use those and when I'm running out of supplies or just find a good planet I plop down a colony.

Vulcan shipset...

Submitted by SevenDeadlySins on Fri, 2008-01-04 22:21. SE:V MODs

Much respect to the individual(s) responsible for the shipset, but a few notes. First, the "satellite" subsumes an entire sector, spilling into neighboring sectors. That's one helluva satellite. On that note, most of the ships are terribly scaled.

That notwithstanding, I intended to use them, and after a few turns, decided I could not use them as-is, so I decided to retexture them. I'm no newb here, either. I was the former Lead Artist for Sentry Studios, and have been skinning for quite some time.

So, I popped open the files and went to work. Much to my chagrin, the UVmap is horrible. No amount of skinning will make that Vulcan destroyer look any better. The red arrows denote every place that the UVmap doesn't line up.
